About Our Bookgroup
We usually meet at 8.30pm on the first Friday of each month and take it in turns to host the meeting in our own homes. Most members live fairly near to Heswall, although we also range towards Chester or West Kirby. We have a fairly even balance of males to females.
Over a glass of wine (or fruit juice) a light discussion of the chosen book takes place and can last up to an hour or so - or longer if we have pursuaded a local author to come along and discuss their work. Everyone has their say and comments are often sparked from another persons observations; we don't feel the need for a 'chair' or notes.
Next we discuss suggestions for the book to be read in two months time (giving ample time to get hold of a copy and read it). Anyone can make a suggestion, but to help we usually keep to fiction and alternate between modern works and shorter classics, choosing only one work per author.
Finally, over coffee, the conversation drifts along more general themes: family, work, the world... If we finally wind up before midnight then it is considered an early night !
